The Requirement of Change

What is the requirement of the change you wish to create in your life?

Will alone is not necessarily enough to move the needle toward the change you wish to make.

Let’s define “Requirement”: the necessary action(s) to obtain the desired result.

If you’re looking to improve your health for example the requirement is relatively straightforward - exercise consistently, eat a healthy balanced diet and prioritise rest and recovery.

However, the requirements are broader and varying when it comes to changes we wish to make regarding our careers, relationships and how we wish to feel or experience our lives.

Let's look at a career goal for example and say you’re looking to move away from your current job and boldly pursue your dream vocation. The requirements involved in making this a reality are less obvious and highly unique to you. In this case, the requirements involved could include some of the following: retraining, financial re-prioritisation, hiring a mentor or coach, self-development and more. All of these have requirements of their own and demand time and energy.

When looking to make changes in your life it’s important to reflect on the following:

  1. What is the level of desire?

  2. What obstacles need to be overcome?

  3. What actions need to be taken?

  4. What is the payoff for not making the change? (return to point 2!)

So I’ll leave you with this question: What are the steps required for your desired change and are you willing to take action?
